Friendship Club Weekend
19th/20thMay - The weekend started with a tea on Saturday evening, which had
been prepared by Joyce, Betty and their team of helpers. After the tea the 20
who had gathered enjoyed participating in a 'pass the parcel' (Ron won a comb)
and a 'picture quiz'.
On Sunday Major Mary Capsey from our National Office led our worship. Mary had done some of her officer training at Wimbledon in the 1980's. During that time she wrote a song which Ron set to music and our songsters sang the song during the meeting. She told us about her officer service in Africa, and the work she does now as part of the United Kingdom International Development Unit. Her Bible message was based on Psalm 139.
It was great to have many of the Friendship club members sharing in worship with us and the club singers sang the song 'I am weak but Thou art strong' .
Over the weekend Joyce Veacock's thirty years of service to the Friendship Club (Over 60's Club) was acknowledged when Major David presented her with a certificate of recognition and a bouquet of flowers on the Saturday evening and a letter of appreciation from the area Adult and Familiy Ministries Officer, Maureen Ross, on the Sunday morning
