|June is one of my favourite months - it's usually
when we take our main holiday. This year we are off to sunny Yorkshire. The
first week we are exploring the Dales and the second week we are visiting York,
The Moors and maybe even the Sea Side. We have bought a book to help us- The
Pocket Book of Pub Walks in North Yorkshire. This book will ensure, I hope,
that we do not get lost and judging by the distance of the walks and the
descriptions of the terrain we will come back either super fit or exhausted. I
can't remember the last time I walked 2 miles let along 6 miles. We are
constantly being reminded how we can keep in good physical shape. Eat a well
balanced diet, take some regular physical exercise. Major Susan and I have
reached that stage in life when the waist line can start to expand alarmingly,
so we are taking measures to curb this expansion
'Slimming World' is now part of Susan's regular reading and she is trying recipes from a cook book entitled 'The GL diet made easy'.
I now attend a weekly Pilates class. This is supposed to be a series of gentle exercises that strengthens the muscles. Well last week these gentle exercises left me aching all over. I suppose it is only to be excepted when muscles that have spent many years in idling mode are suddenly required to go into drive mode, but I will persevere.
While we are on holiday we will also be exercising our minds. I intend to read Bill Bryson's 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' and Susan will probably pack Dr Kawashima's 'Brain Training' game for her Nintendo. How much exercise our minds get will probably depend upon how tired our bodies are at the end of the day. To complete our keep fit package we will continue to exercise and feed our spirits by sharing a short reading from the Bible each morning and chatting to God (praying) about all manner of things. The Bible has something to say about keeping fit, check out these verses - I Corinthians 6:19 & 20; Philippians 4:8; Ephesians 6: 18 and 2 Timothy 3:16.
